In 2014, CALLISTO concluded the research activities foreseen within the three year project funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme.

During the final cycle of activities, experts worked on the elaboration of recommendations that may contribute in understanding and mitigating the risks of infectious diseases potentially transmitted by companion animals to humans and food animals.

Following the risk assessments of paradigmatic infectious diseases implemented by the Expert Advisory Groups (EAGs) during the second cycle of activities and linking main outcomes of the first cycle - analysis of the current situation as concerns zoonosis transmitted by companion animals - CALLISTO produced a series of recommendations that are fully described in the Third Cycle Strategy Report.

This report is an integral part of the official deliverables of the project and it is one of a series of documents elaborated by the project EAGs for reporting research activities (First Cycle Strategy Report, Second Cycle Strategy Report, EAGs and Cross EAGs Reports etc.).

General results of the research project are now available and presented in the CALLISTO project Final Report.

End users of this final report, and of recommendations made by CALLISTO, are the EU Commission (EU), Member State Veterinary Offices (VO), Veterinary staff and other professionals in contact with companion animals (V), Academic Research community (AR), Animal food Industry, Public health and veterinary/food institutes (PVI), Companion animal care takers (C), Doctors (D), Farmers (F), Food industry (FO), Human-animal bond organizations (HAB), International animal and human health organizations (IHO), Diagnostic Laboratories (L), Owners (O), Pharmaceutical Industry (P), Police and armed forces (PF), Pet/Zoo shops (Z).

This broad public of users, potentially interested in the CALLISTO topics of research (user community, sociology and welfare of keeping companion animals, related policy actions, study of infections of bacterial, viral or parasitic origins, epidemiology, responsible pet ownership, etc.), may now discover the project findings and recommendations included in the report.

The Publications section contains the full version of the CALLISTO Reports.

CALLISTO is pleased to announce the 3rd and Final Project Conference.

The event will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 22 - 24 October 2014 and a very intensive programme of activities is foreseen. This final synthesis conference is the opportunity for EAGs members to meet and finalise their conclusive tasks and debate about contents of the 3rd cycle project report together with relevant stakeholders. To this end a special CALLISTO open seminar is foreseen on 24th October. Outcomes of the Conference activities, of discussions and interactions among CALLISTO experts, authorities and stakeholders present at the event are going to be used to generate the Final Report of CALLISTO containing final recommendations for targeted actions.
